Unified Analysis of Switched-Resonator Converters

Abstract: A mechanism for power processing is presented, in which a certain amount of energy is transferred from the source to the output in each cycle. The result is establishing a family of resonant converters so-called switched-resonator converters. The basic nonisolated formation presented in this paper exhibits a collection of 23 simple dc-dc converters. All topologies are inherently soft switched and systematically synthesized. A plenary analysis of the proposed converters is presented.

“…9(a), the circuit can be simplified to a 1:1 conversion cell similar to the SC equivalent. Here, L X , C X , and S1 form a switched series-resonant impedance [15]. R esr and L X lump in the series resistance and inductance in the loops that contain C X and the C bp .…”

“…A normalized comparison between the required area products for various voltage regulator topologies and operation modes has been carried out and is summarized in The presented GRSCC regulator shares the same switchcount of other step-up/down realizations such as a noninverting buck-boost with comparable efficiency [23]. Nevertheless, specific comparison to step-down regulators implemented with SICs [35]- [40] demonstrates that although having more switches, the overall power density of the GRSCC is reduced considerably. This is accomplished by a …”

“…Another approach to regulate the conversion ratio is to introduce an inductive element [8][9][10][11]. Having inductive element allows circulation of the charge within the converter [12][13][14][15][16]. However introduction of inductive element, defeats the whole purpose of miniaturisation, since inductors integration still poses a challenge in the IC production.…”
