Abstract:The displacive structural phase transition in a two-dimensional model solid due to Benassi et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 106, 256102 (2011)] is analyzed using Monte Carlo simulations and finite-size scaling. The model is shown to be a member of the two-dimensional six-state clock model universality class. Consequently, the model features two phase transitions, implying the existence of three thermodynamically distinct phases, namely, a low-temperature phase with long-ranged order, an intermediate critical phase wi… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
