Unusual cerebello-pontine angle tumours

Abstract: Fifty-nine unusual cerebello-pontine angle tumours have been studied. These lesions represent 19.3 per cent or 1 in 5 of a series of 305 cerebello-pontine angle tumours of which the rest, 246 (80.7 per cent), were acoustic neuromas. An analysis of the relative incidence, histology and presenting clinical features has been carried out. The various radiographical features and imaging techniques used to diagnose these fascinating tumours have been described and also the otoneurosurgical procedures necessary to ex… Show more

“…Regardless of the clinical reflection, it is difficult to distinguish angle medulloblastomas from other tumors located in this region (6).The most common pathologic lesions of cerebellopontine angle are acoustic neurinomas, meningiomas, primary cholesteatomas and epidermoid tumors (7). In our case the tumor was located extraaxially which was extremely rare at pediatric age.…”

“…Meningiomas are the second most common tumor of the cerebellopontine angle (CPA) accounting for 3.1 to 12 % of all tumors following acoustic neuroma, which represent 76 to 91.3 % of the total [1][2][3] . Usually CPA meningiomas arise from the dura of the petrous bone and are classified according to their origin, in relation to the International Auditory Canal (IAC) 4 .…”

“…In contrast, meningiomas arising within the internal auditory canal (IAC) are quite rare, 4,11,17) with only about 50 cases. 2) The most common IAC tumor is vestibular schwannoma (VS), followed by meningioma, arachnoid cyst, hemangioma, lipoma, neurofibroma, facial neuroma, and malignant lymphoma.…”
