Abstract:Q fever is uncommon in solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients. We describe a case of granulomatous lung disease as an unusual presentation of chronic Q fever in a kidney‐pancreas transplant recipient.
“…Of the specific cases of Q fever that have been described in the literature, only seven involve SOT recipients, though this is thought to be an underestimate of all cases. 1,2,[10][11][12][13] Our case speaks to the severity of acute Q fever in a SOT recipient and that Q fever should be considered in cases of atypical pneumonia in SOT recipients.…”

“…Q fever in solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients is a rare phenomenon with few cases described in the medical literature . We describe a case of acute Q fever in a renal transplant recipient which presented as pneumonia with rapidly progressive respiratory failure and later evolved into suspected infective endocarditis.…”

| INTRODUC TI ONQ fever in solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients is a rare phenomenon with few cases described in the medical literature. 1 We describe a case of acute Q fever in a renal transplant recipient which presented as pneumonia with rapidly progressive respiratory failure and later evolved into suspected infective endocarditis. This presentation is unique in that the pneumonia required mechanical ventilation for respiratory failure, whereas most patients experience a self-limited pneumonia course.
Q fever in solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients is rarely described in the medical literature. We present a case of severe acute Q fever pneumonia that evolved into persistent localized Q fever endocarditis in a renal transplant recipient.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
