“…In the research, it was observed that being able to express oneself positively affects the risk-taking behavior towards work. Figueira et al (2018) stated that the potential of academics to improve their methods of teaching, conducting research, or supervising their students depends on their understanding of academic risk-taking. “…The notions of risk and risk-taking have become critical issues in promoting innovation (Schumpeter, 1934) and innovativeness (Cowart et al , 2007). The exploration of risk and risk-taking is uncommon in the higher education sector but it has gradually come to pervade this sector (Hommel and King, 2013; Figueira, Theodorakopoulos, and Caselli, 2015). Among the first attempts to study risk and risk-taking in the educational context is Clifford and Chou's (1991) work.…”

“…Clifford and Chou (1991) applied theories of risk and risk-taking from economics and psychology to the educational context, coining the term of academic risk-taking. In recent decades, the role of risk and risk management in the HE sector, especially universities and HEIs has been recognized since the emergence of New Public Management and of what has been labeled as Risk University (Figueira, Theodorakopoulos and Caselli, 2015). In other words, risk and risk management have also become increasingly important in universities and HEIs as they are undergoing a period of radical change – driven by the need to maintain and enhance excellence, prompted to become more entrepreneurial and innovative, devoted to the capitalization of knowledge, patents, start-up university spin-offs (Cai and Liu, 2013) and create value for their shareholders.…”
