Zigzag edged nanographenes such as peri‐acenoacenes are promising materials for organic lasers, but the effects of heteroatom doping on the electronic properties and gain medium performance remain unclear. Herein, the facile synthesis of a new 1,2‐oxaborine (BO) doped peri‐tetracenotetracene derivative, the bis(1,2‐oxaborine)peri‐tetracenotetracene (BOTT‐Mes), is reported. X‐ray crystallographic analysis confirms the BO‐doped planar structure and the nonexistence of intermolecular π–π stacking in solid state. Compared with the all‐carbon peri‐tetracenotetracene derivative (TT‐Ar), the BO‐doped BOTT‐Mes exhibits more disrupted π‐conjugation at the BO sites, a lower‐lying highest occupied molecular orbital, and a larger energy gap. Due to its rigid skeleton and nonaggregative feature, it displays well‐resolved absorption and emission spectra with a small Stokes shift (8 nm) and high photoluminescence quantum yield (80%) when it is dispersed in a polystyrene (PS) thin film. Notably, 1,2‐oxaborine doping improves the film amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) performance, with a lower ASE threshold (Eth‐ASE = 66 µJ cm–2) as compared to the TT‐Ar doped PS film (Eth‐ASE = 100 µJ cm–2). Furthermore, a low threshold (22 µJ cm–2) solution‐processed distributed feedback laser is fabricated, indicating the feasibility of using BOTT‐Mes as gain medium for practical laser applications.

With their exceptional optoelectronic properties, CsPbBr3 perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) are promising materials for light‐emitting devices. Elucidating their stimulated emission mechanisms is fundamental to grasp the limitations hindering their use as electrically pumped lasers. In particular, two questions remain open: why the Amplified Spontaneous Emission (ASE) band is significantly shifted from the fluorescence one, and why the former seems to suddenly emerge from, and coexist with, the latter. Here, these questions are addressed through experimental ASE measurements, combined with numerical simulations and a comprehensive assessment of the performance of different analytical expressions used in the literature to retrieve the optical gain from these experiments. This multi‐facet study shows that the ASE behavior in CsPbBr3 NCs thin films stems from four distinctive processes: reabsorption due to a large overlap between the absorption and fluorescence spectra, a strong contribution of excited state absorption within the fluorescence window, the excitation of differently polarized waveguide modes, and the coexistence of short‐ and long‐lived localized excitons. The results in this work delineate the best practices to analyze the optical gain in perovskite samples, help to understand their ASE mechanisms, and provide insights to boost their lasing efficiency.

Graphene‐like molecules with multiple zigzag edges are emerging as promising gain materials for organic lasers. Their emission wavelengths can vary widely, ranging from visible to near‐infrared (NIR), as molecular size increases. Specifically, rhombus‐shaped molecular graphenes with two pairs of parallel zigzag edges, known as [n]rhombenes, are excellent candidates for NIR lasers due to their small energy gaps. However, synthesizing large‐size rhombenes with emission beyond 800 nm in solution remains a significant challenge. In this study, we present a straightforward synthesis of an aryl‐substituted [4]rhombene derivative, [4]RB‐Ar, using a method that combines intramolecular radical‐radical coupling with Bi(OTf)3‐mediated cyclization of vinyl ethers. The structure of [4]RB‐Ar was confirmed through X‐ray crystallographic analysis. Bond length analysis and theoretical calculations indicate that aromatic sextets are predominantly localized along the molecule's long axis. Significantly, [4]RB‐Ar demonstrates narrow amplified spontaneous emission at around 834 nm when dispersed in polystyrene thin films. Moreover, solution‐processed distributed feedback lasers employing [4]RB‐Ar as the active gain material display tunable narrow emissions in the range of 830 to 844 nm.
