Updated general exposure factors for risk assessment in the Korean population

Abstract: Background There has been an increasing need to update the recommended values of Korean exposure factors for adults aged 19 and older, as using exposure factors developed over a decade ago could reduce risk assessment reliability. Objective Exposure factor data have been compiled and standardized using the latest national statistical reports and academic literature, as well as studies conducted from 2016 to 2018. Methods … Show more

“…Based on the results obtained from the provola samples, the estimated dietary intake (EDI) of these compounds was calculated using the following equation [ 43 ]: EDI = C·D/BW where C (μg/Kg) is the average measured concentration of the analytes in the provola samples. D (Kg/day) is the daily consumption dose (0.045 Kg/day) according to Crupi et al [ 44 ] and recommended by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAOSTAT) [ 45 ], and BW (kg) is the average adult body weight (60 kg).…”

“…The inhalation rate was divided into the categories of adults and children and then average daily (24 h mean) and during sleep. The exposure factors for adults and children were based on the Korean Exposure Factors Handbook, published by the Korea Ministry of Environment [13][14][15]. The average inhalation rate in adults was 9.9 L/min, and the sleeping inhalation rate in adults was 7.5 L/min.…”
