Upgrading Knowledge on Making Virgin Coconut Oil and Soap: Effort to Improve Community Health

Abstract

he potential of coconuts in Kabrokan Kulon Hamlet, Sendangsari Village, Pajangan, Bantul is abundant. The limited knowledge of coconut potential of the community members hinders them from optimally using the coconut potential. Optimizing the potential of coconut in Kabrokan Kulon Hamlet can be an alternative to encourage the creation of a strong economy and public health. This community service program is formed and aims to provide training on making virgin coconut oil (VCO) and its derivative product namely soap. The first method used in the program was counseling, and the second was training. This community service activity targeted the Women Farmers group and the Women's Family Welfare Empowerment group. This community service program was carried out on March 5, 2023, and was attended by 17 representatives from both groups. Participants were very excited because they gained new knowledge about making VCO coconut oil without heating, which they perceived as very easy and profitable. Furthermore, it was energy efficient. The activity ended with handing over grants for tools for making VCO and soap.
