“…The peak of smoke production rate (pSPR) and TSP of the PUA/Co 3 O 4 @OZC-2 composite are significantly reduced by 29.7 and 40.4%, respectively, relative to pure PUA. Moreover, the SPR and TSP of PUA/Co 3 O 4 @OZC-2 are significantly lower than those of PUA/ZIF-67, which suggests that the hierarchical pores are beneficial to absorb and catalyze the smoke particles and pyrolytic volatiles (Figure a,b) . Smoke factor (SF), which is the product of HRR and TSR, is usually employed to comprehensively evaluate the smoke generation condition of the polymer during combustion .…”

“…On the one hand, Co 3 O 4 @OZC-2 contains transition metal elements with catalytic effect, and its open-wall structure and high specific surface area expose more active sites, which enhances the formation of the compact char layer. , On the other hand, Co 3 O 4 @OZC-2 features a hierarchical pore structure that slows down the release of volatiles during the decomposition of the matrix. Because of this unique structure, toxic gases and smoke particles are easily trapped by the cage through physical and chemical adsorption, and they have to go through a more complex pathway than usual, the so-called “labyrinth” effect. , Impressively, catalytic structures with both mesopores and micropores are more effective than solely microporous catalytic structures for smoke and toxic gas inhibition, as mesoporous structures can capture large smoke particles more efficiently. However, out-of-size mesoporous structures may impair the adsorption capacity for smoke.…”

“…For commercial EPS (Video S1), the region in direct contact with the visible flame quickly shrank and ignited, followed by a fire spreading to the whole sample. Profusive dark black smoke was observed from the flame, associated with irritating and toxic compounds. , Moreover, molten EPS droplets dripped from the foam during burning (Figure d). Such melting–dripping phenomenon is associated with fire spreading, a major safety concern of most synthetic materials .…”

“…[3][4][5][6] In previous research, triethyl phosphate (TEP) was adsorbed on the surface of MIL-53 (a kind of MOF with iron as the metal and terephthalic acid as the ligand) to change its surface structure. 7 Surprisingly, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images indicated that numerous papillary structures formed on the surface. This lotus-like surface structure has inspired us.…”
