Upper Body Posture Investigation in Young Track and Field Athletes

Abstract: Based on previous researches, it was identified how physical activity brings effects on the posture and physical development of a young body. The posture of the athletes is a large interest subject for the physical education and sports research field, mostly for the researchers who discovered that physical training affects body posture, even if there is no consensus on the direction of this effect. “…The results of our research supplemented the conclusions of specialists [18] about the increase in the number of young athletes with functional disorders of the musculoskeletal system. According to L. Radu, R. Petrea [20], the diagnosis of postural asymmetry of athletes is of great importance at the stage of initial training. The data obtained in the study [20] point to the fact that shoulder and scapular asymmetry is more common in young female athletes compared to boys.…”

“…Even amateur athletes exhibit changes in the formation of anterior–posterior spinal curves [ 22 , 23 , 24 , 25 ]. Findings from other studies indicate pelvic asymmetry in female soccer players [ 23 ], and asymmetry in shoulder blades, waist triangles, shoulder lines, and spines in young track and field athletes [ 24 , 26 ] and tennis players [ 27 ]. The impact of hyperkyphosis on lowering the shoulder and indirectly on subacromial impingement syndrome in football players has also been identified [ 28 ].…”
