Abstract:Thyrotoxic periodic paralysis is a rare but life-threatening complication of hyperthyroidism. Characteristic features involve thyrotoxicosis, acute paralysis, and hypokalemia. Mild hypomagnesemia and hypophosphatemia are also present in most cases due to the resulting transcellular shift of electrolytes.
