Uranium(VI) recovery from acidic leach liquor by Ambersep 920U SO4 resin: Kinetic, equilibrium and thermodynamic studies

Abstract: The kinetic, equilibrium and thermodynamic characteristics of U(VI) recovery by the strong base anion exchange resin Ambersep 920U SO 4 from Gabal Gattar sulfate leach liquor have been determined. Batch sorption experiments are performed to evaluate the optimum conditions at pH2, 200 mg resin dose for 120 min contact time at room temperature. The maximum sorption capacity reaches to 58 mg/g at 298 K. The kinetics data are well described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model at different uranium concentratio… Show more

“…The band at 1022 cm −1 is assigned to the stretching vibration of S=O group. Moreover the bands were assigned to C-O at 1061 and 1105 cm −1 and the C=O band at 1635 cm −1 [46,48,49,[51][52][53]. The above mentioned bands indicate the modification of amberlite XAD 2010 with ARS.…”

“…Upon modification with ARS, the phenolic-OH band appears at 3432 cm −1 [46,50]. The most noticeable change in the spectra is the band at 1266 and 1159 cm −1 which are due to the stretching SO 3 2− and C-S band at 585 cm −1 [46,51]. The band at 1022 cm −1 is assigned to the stretching vibration of S=O group.…”

“…The pH plays an important role in the retention of uranium to all adsorbents, as pH can influence the aqueous chemistry of uranium and the properties of the active sites of the sorbent . The retention of uranium on AD or SMDC was studied in the pH ranges from 1 to 6.…”

“…The presence of chloride ions suppresses the uranium recovery by anion exchangers [12][13][14]. The process of uranium sorption by ion exchange resin is the basis of a large amount of technological schemes for reprocessing productive solutions [15][16][17][18][19]. Therefore, in this paper, the processes of uranium sorption from ISL solutions with an increased content of chloride ions by using of industrial grade ion exchangers have been studied, and various options for the subsequent regeneration of saturated resins have been considered.…”
