What and where is ‘the asylum’ today? To what extent do mental healthcare facilities stand out as clearly bounded entities in the modern urban landscape, perhaps reflecting their history as deliberately set-apart and then often stigmatised places? To what extent have they maybe become less obtrusive, more sunk into and interacting with their urban surroundings? What issues of urban ethics are at stake: concerning who/what is starkly demarcated in the city, perhaps subjected to exclusionary logics and pressures, or more sensitively integrated into the city, planned for inclusion and co-dwelling? These questions underscore our article, rooted in an in-depth case study of Gartnavel Royal Hospital, Glasgow, opened as a ‘lunatic asylum’ on its present, originally greenfield, site in the 1840s and remaining open today surrounded by dense urban expansion. Building from the ‘voices’ of patients, staff and others familiar with the site, we discuss the sense of this asylum as ‘other’ to, as ‘outside’ of, or merely ’beside’ the urban fabric. Drawing from concepts of ‘orientations’ (Ahmed, 2006), sites as spatial constructions (Burns & Kahn, 2005), the power of borders and boundaries (Haselsberger, 2014; Sennett, 2018), issues of site, stigma and related urban ethical matters will be foregrounded. Where are the boundaries that divide the hospital campus from the urban context? What are the material signifiers, the cultural associations or the emotional attachments that continue to set the boundaries? Or, in practice, do boundaries melt into messier, overlapping, intersecting border zones, textured by diverse, sometimes contradictory, bordering practices? And, if so, what are the implications?

Ethics is very necessary in every profession. Ethics is part of governance. The purpose of this study is to study the influence of deontology ethics, virtue ethics, utilitarian ethics, and egoism ethics on the performance of banking SOEs. This research uses quantitative methods. The population is state-owned banking stakeholders. The sample is a former auditor and user of BUMN banking services. The sample was taken purposively. The results showed that deontology ethics did not significantly influence the performance of banking SOEs, virtue ethics did not significantly influence the performance of banking SOEs, utilitarian ethics did not significantly influence the performance of banking SOEs, and egoism ethics had a significant effect on the performance of banking SOEs.

La supremacía alude a la prevalencia de superioridad jerárquica de unos grupos humanos sobre otros. De aquí surge el concepto de ciudad supremacista, para interpelar la manera velada de excluir y desplazar. Por su parte, el capacitismo describe situaciones que establecen condiciones de discriminación relacionadas con la discapacidad física o mental, asociado a la capacidad de producir, por tanto, de ser útil para la sociedad. Desde la mirada de la diversidad funcional es posible considerar valiosas todas las diversas expresiones de funcionamiento del cuerpo humano, pues cada persona puede presentar un modo particular de funcionamiento. El objetivo de este trabajo es hacer una revisión de la ciudad bajo en enfoque del capacitismo y la diversidad funcional, tanto en el periodo de pre pandemia como en post pandemia. La metodología se apoya de un análisis teórico contrastando las condiciones supremacistas de la ciudad en los dos periodos mencionados, complementado con prácticas de observación de los espacios urbanos, así como encuestas a personas con discapacidad. Los resultados muestran las condiciones de supremacía que imperan en la ciudad, diseñada para habitantes con características de “completud y capacidad”, centrado en la posibilidad para producir y “ser útil”, extendida a los espacios mismos.Se concluye un necesario cambio de paradigmas, que consideren la dignificación de los espacios urbanos con un enfoque inclusivo, que atienda los derechos de todo tipo de personas, y que se aleje de conductas supremacistas que imperan en el diseño y en la gestión urbana.
