Usable Interface Design for Everyone

Abstract: When designing "interfaces for everyone" for interactive systems, it is important to consider factors such as cost, the intended market, the state of the environment, etc. User interfaces are fundamental for the developmental process in any application, and its design must be contemplated from the start. Of the distinct parts of a system (hardware and software), it is the interface that permits the user access to computer resources. The seven principles of "Universal Design" or "Design for Everyone" focus on a… Show more

“…Woodson and Selby affirm that this is a new way of team-designing and as such not limited to just a set of individual techniques applied to design [32]. Other authors, propose three principles that present relevance regarding the implementation of a new philosophy of work for the field of product design: a) focus on users and the tasks they will be performing with the product, from the very beginning, b) use of test prototypes for the collection of field-data, c) design in an iterative way that allows cyclical repetitions within the phases of design, allowing the alteration of parameters and product usability tests from the very beginning, in other to attain a fulfilling result [4,[33][34][35][36]. Sagot performs analysis around the contribution that ergonomics has over the design process of new products, referencing a cooperative and retro-active methodology [37].…”

“…All these individual characteristics determine whether a person will use that system or not (Çağıltay, 2016;Dix et al, 2004;Şahin, Hebebci, & Çelik, 2014). Therefore, it is an important issue to design systems acceptably so that everyone can use them (de Castro Lozano et al, 2011;Newell & Gregor, 2002). At this point, the concept of universal design comes in sight.…”
