Use of a Monoblock Gunning Splint in a Bilateral Condylar Fracture in an Edentulous Patient

Abstract: identified the midline compared to the studies that used skull x-rays or only axial plane CTs. 1,2,10 To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first one that determined the distance of the central sulcus to and the coronal suture in adult Turkish population. CONCLUSIONSIdentifying the central sulcus relative to the coronal suture is essential to preserve the primary motor and/or sensory cortices in neurosurgical procedures. The distance of the central sulcus to the coronal suture is approximately 4.7 c… Show more

“…So, the Gunning splint has been modified numerous times from the moment of its introduction (Romm, 1986) 39 and during its application by different specialists and in various intraoral circumstances (Goss and Brown, 1975; Dharaskar and colleagues, 2014; Singh and colleagues, 2017; Hwang and Ma, 2021) [40][41][42][43] . Juraj Halmoš (1975) described the use of an individually made plastic monoblock for fractures treatment of jaws with an incomplete number of teeth.…”

“…In our previous report, we used a monoblock Gunning splint, which does not need the upper and lower splints to be connected with wire loops or elastic bands, and maintained sufficient vertical length in the treatment of an edentulous mandibular fracture. 6 This is a report of a single case and a regression model has limited utility. However, we believe that this model opens a possibility to presume the expected period of removal of intermaxillary fixation.…”
