Use of dialysis to limit interferences in the Turbidimetric determination of sulfate

Abstract: An automated barium sulfate (BaSO 4 ) turbidimetric method for the determination of sulfate (SO 4 ) in 0.002M CaCl 2 soil extracts is presented which utilizes a dialysis stage to remove interferences. Dialysis was effective in removing particulates and organic coloration which caused overestimation of the SO 4 concentration, producing results comparable to those achieved by ion chromatography.
