“…Movement on the Brookneal shear zone is reasonably constrained to between 300 ± 10 (2σ) and 324 ± 6 Ma based on two-point Rb-Sr isochron (biotite whole-rock) and hornblende 40 Ar/ 39 Ar cooling ages (Gates et al, 1986). Direct dating of uranium minerals at Coles Hill has proven difficult (Olsen, 2016) due to the open U-Pb geochemical systems created by crystalline lattice damage during radioactive decay and migration/loss of U decay products within and out of host phases (Neymark et al, 2021). Therefore, dating efforts in this study used Rb-Sr and U-Pb isotope methods on whole rocks by isotope dilution-thermal ionization mass spectrometry (ID-TIMS) and in situ U-Pb dating of titanite and apatite by laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) on polished thin sections.…”

“…High-U apatite, closely associated with uranium mineralization, shows U-Pb ages of approximately 200 to 250 Ma (Fig. 14; Neymark et al, 2021). To better understand the distribution of dates (Moscati and Neymark, 2020), we applied the "UnMix" routine in the Isoplot 4.15 program (Ludwig, 2012), which is based on the Sambridge and Compston (1994) algorithm for modeling multicomponent data.…”
