This paper discusses the experimental findings on lay-ing quails when their diets were supplemented with iodine and starch mixture. Five groups of 120 comparable quails bred in the Omsk Region were formed; the sex ratio was 1:4. The first group was the control; the birds were fed the main diet without the iodine supplement; the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th groups were trial groups where the main diet was supplemented with iodine (potassium iodide) + starch (1:4) immediately before feeding. The dosages of the tested product in the trial groups were as following (in terms of iodine, mg per 100 g of feed): the 2nd group -0.05; 3rd -0.075; 4th -0.10; 5th -0.125. The experiment lasted for 180 days. Throughout the experiment, the largest number of eggs was obtained in the 3rd trial group -15240 eggs, more by 18.1% than in the control group (P ≥ 0.99). The laying quail day egg production in the 3rd trial group was 25.4 eggs, more by 13.0% than that in the control group. In the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th trial groups, the average egg weight was less than in the control, respectively, by 4.5; 7.1 and 8.0%. The number of produced eggs in the 3rd trial group was more than in the control group by 17.0% (P ≥ 0.95), and the intensity of egg production -by 10.0%. The feed costs were lower in the trial groups by 0.16-15.57% for the production of 10 eggs; and for the production of 1 kg of eggs in the 3rd and 4th trial groups -by 9.08 and 3.12% than in the control. The profitability in the 3rd trial group made 54.2%; that was by 1.59% higher than in the control group. The optimal dosage of iodine as much as 0.075 mg per 100 g of complete feed was determined which contrib-uted to obtaining a greater economic effect in quail egg production.

An important problem today is the pollution of the territory of Ukraine with heavy metals: lead, cadmium, copper, zinc and others. Relevance of the topic is that nowadays the issues of safety and quality control are not fully resolved in the country, as well as the veterinary and sanitary assessment of the meat of snails of the genus Helix, which are used for food purposes; in particular, there is no data on the content of toxic elements in a meat of different species of snails for different processing modes. The aim of the study was to investigate the meat of snails of the genus Helix for different processing to find heavy metals in it. The meat of snails of genus Helix has been used for the study, sub-species: Helix pomatia, Helix aspersa maxima and Helix aspersa muller. 30 samples of snails of each species grown in snails farm in the Kyiv region have been selected for the study. Meat of snails has been studied after different technological processing: live, chilled, and cooked and frozen (n = 30). The research has been conducted in the winter, when the snails have been in anabiosis. Results of the study show that in accordance with the requirements of DSTU 7821:2016 “Live edible gastropod molluscs. Specifications”, the content of toxic elements in the meat of live snails corresponds to the maximum allowable level. One of the key indicators of safety of meat, in accordance with the requirements of DSTU 7821:2016, is the content of toxic elements in it: lead, cadmium, copper, zinc. It has been found that the meat of snails, in addition to the above mentioned heavy metals, contains also arsenic and iron, which relate to toxic elements as well. Therefore, when developing a complex system of veterinary and sanitary assessment of quality and safety of snails’ meat, we propose to control it on the content of such toxic elements as arsenic and iron. In addition, we recommend to improve the “The Required Minimum List…” (2004) with the studies of the meat of snails of the genus Helix for different technological processing on the content of toxic elements: lead, cadmium, copper, zinc, arsenic and iron.

Modern complex disinfectants should not only be highly effective against most pathogens, but also safe for the body of laboratory and farm animals. To determine the effect of microbicides on animal organism, there are several commonly accepted parameters that are regulated by relevant methodological documents. Taking into account the urgency of the development and implementation of modern disinfectants, the purpose of the researche was to study the effects of the drug "Orgsept" on the indicators of acute toxicity and its harmful effects on laboratory animals. The determination of acute toxicity, the study of the cumulative and skin-resorptive action of the drug "Orgasept" was performed on clinically healthy white mice, and the irritating effect and sensitizing properties were studied on Guinea pigs. The studies were conducted using generally accepted techniques (Yakubchak et al., 2005). According to the results of the research, acute toxicity, cumulative, sensitizing, irritating, skin-resorptive action of the disinfectant based on lactic acid and nanoparticles of silver "Orgasept" on laboratory animals were determined. It has been determined that the investigated preparation according to sanitary-and-hygienic norms GOST 12.1.007-76 belongs to the 3 groups of toxicity in concentrations which are significantly higher than bactericidal, it does not have a pronounced cumulative, sensitizing and skin-resorptive action.
