Use of Patterns for Know-How Reuse in a Model-Based Systems Engineering Framework

Abstract: The increasing complexity of systems being developed requires engineers to review their practices to improve engineering efficiency and meet the needs of a competitive market. To answer these challenges, engineers have always reused their know-how. However, facing today's rising complexity, reuse has to be much more performant. That is why models supported by formal or semiformal languages are preferred to avoid the variability of natural languages interpretation. In this context, Model-Based Systems Engineerin… Show more

“…An important aspect associated with the use of models is enabling the reuse of information that is already captured in models into later/future development or reuse of different model variants. The reuse of the models can be planned or unplanned as well (Wu et al, 2020). Keeping the later reuse in mind, there are a number of contributions that deal with the reuse (Lange et al, 2018;Shani and Broodney, 2015;Wu et al, 2019) of models.…”

“…To its advantage, COTS could be selected and implemented for technical (shortening the developmental phase), organizational (reducing the overall cost of the developmental phase), or strategic reasons (access to technology not available internally) [33]. Recently, professional COTS often comes with supporting documentation such as proof of verification, validation conformance, and manufacture specifications or fact sheet.…”

“…(3) Pattern based System model reuse: Wu [10] discussed and analysed the reuse of proprietary using patterns in model based system engineering, which integrates the capitalization, reuse and update capabilities of patterns in the form of library. Yuan [11] focused on the trade-off process of design, and achieved the reuse of the model by defining the way of solving the problem model.…”
