Use of the FacebookTM social network in data collection and dissemination of evidence

Abstract: Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of the FacebookTM platform as a means of disseminating a video in Portuguese demonstrating the use of three interventions of pain management (breastfeeding, skin-to-skin contact, and sweet solutions) during minor procedures, and to evaluate prior knowledge, the range, dissemination and intent to use the strategies in the future. “…Furthermore, parents increasingly search for health information on the internet 39‐41 which reinforces the need to provide high‐quality evidence‐based online resources on neonatal pain management 39,41 , as well as evaluate their impact in clinical practices. Parents and HCP have been accessing the “Be sweet to babies” video on social media platforms in many languages across many countries, with positive results in terms of knowledge acquisition, acceptability, feasibility, and intention to use the strategies for future painful procedures 19 , 24 . In this study, the Portuguese version of the video was also determined to be potentially effective, however, pain management strategies were still only used in 40% of cases in the IG.…”

“…The video has been evaluated by parents and HCP as useful, easy to understand, applicable in real scenarios, persuasive, and an ideal length. 19,[21][22][23][24] However, the impact of this video on the use of analgesic strategies during painful procedures performed in neonatal care units is still unknown. 22,23 We hypothesized that mothers exposed to the Portuguese version of the video would be more participative in using analgesic strategies during nonurgent painful procedures performed in neonates.…”

“…In the category "Use of Facebook for data collection in scientific productions", five studies were selected that contemplated the use of said social media in the collection of information and dissemination of evidence. This social network was used to disseminate three pain management interventions during painful procedures and evaluate prior knowledge, scope, dissemination, and intention to use strategies in the future (42).…”
