Use of the Genetic Algorithm-Based Fuzzy Logic Controller for Load-Frequency Control in a Two Area Interconnected Power System

Abstract: Abstract:The use of renewable energy resources has created some problems for power systems. One of the most important of these is load frequency control (LFC). In this study, in order to solve the LFC problem, modern control methods were applied to a two area multi source interconnected power system. A photovoltaic solar power plant (PV-SPP) was also connected, in order to identify the harmful effects on the frequency of the system. A new Genetic-based Fuzzy Logic (GA-FL) controller was designed to control the… Show more

“…By genetic operations such as reproduction, crossover and mutation [33], it simulates the mechanism of survival competitions, the superior results survive while the inferior results are eliminated. GA has been applied to many kinds of optimization issues in engineering, due to its simple and effective implementation procedure [34,35]. In order to unload torque in transmission with less oscillation in drivetrain, root mean square (RMS) of motor speed, torsional angle and rotary speed of drive shaft are introduced to constitute the fitness function, as their unit and magnitude are different, so that the above three indexes are normalized to be the fitness function f , the optimization objectives can be expressed as Equation (23) …”

“…The AGC performance is highly dependent on how those generating units respond to the commands. The generation unit response characteristics is mainly affected by the control strategy that the unit utilizes, like robust control methods [23,24], intelligent algorithms [25,26] and optimization approaches [27,28]. This part can be solved by integrating appropriate and efficient controller in the wind turbine structure, which is demonstrated in this study.…”
