Use of topsoil for restoration of a degraded pasture área

Abstract: -The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of topsoil thickness, shading and origin when performing environmental restoration in a degraded pasture area. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design with a factorial (3 x 2 x 2) + 2 layout. Treatments consisted of combinations of topsoil origins (forest at early or middle regeneration stages), topsoil thicknesses (10, 20, or 30-cm superficial soil layer), and presence or absence of 70% shading; with two additional control treatments.… Show more

“…Fernandes (2006) attributed to Ca 2+ , when in low soil contents, the possibility of root growth paralysis due to the action of this nutrient in the growth points of the roots. Therefore, the application of lime and gypsum in areas of Cerrado is of extreme importance, since the soils of this biome have high acidity and low concentrations of sulphur and calcium under natural conditions (Amaral et al, 2017).…”

“…our study area). Considering the seed banks of nearby Cerrado area in an intermediate stage of human action, it is the most suitable for restoring areas with little or no vegetation, and the soil would not influence, since the physical-chemical attributes are similar for the donors and receiving areas (Amaral et al 2017). The available diversity in a donor area nearby the degraded one is the result of years of deposition of relict and resistant species.…”

“…The rescue of the individuals was during the rainy season, in February, in a fragment of Semideciduous Seasonal Forest located on the margins of the MG-010 highway (coordinates 18°51'30.27"S and 43°23'51.39"O), located in the municipality of Conceição do Mato Dentro, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The study area is part from the geomorphological domain of Serra do Espinhaço, having a Köppen Cwa climate: subtropical humid mesothermal (Sá Júnior et al, 2012), with mean annual temperature of 20.6 °C, mean annual precipitation of 1400 and 1500 mm (Amaral et al, 2017) and 704 m of altitude. The rescue technique was established by the environmental agency as a mitigation measure of the vegetation suppression for iron mining by the Anglo American Iron Ore Brazil Company, in this municipality.…”
