Use of waste materials in rubber matrix

Abstract: The presented paper deals with the use of waste materials as ecological fillers into rubber matrix. Waste materials were used as partial replacement of the commercial filler – carbon black, designated as N339. These prepared rubber compounds were characterized on the basis of the rheology and vulcanization characteristics – minimum torque (ML), maximum torque (MH), optimum time of vulcanization (t(c90)), processing safety of compound (ts), rate coefficient of vulcanization (Rv). In the case of the prepared vul… Show more

“…Therefore, apart from the composition of a rubber mixture, an important treatment is the so-called mechanical stabilization and orientation of the structure, which reduces the energy losses caused by internal friction, increases the mechanical strength of the rubber to tension and untension, and fixes the characteristics of anisotropy. This shows that even when different manufacturers use rubber compositions similar to those used, we obtain a final product with different mechanical and rheological properties [8].…”

“…Belt manufacturers do not provide details of the chemical composition of the mixtures used. This concern both rubber and polyurethane blends [8]. These materials include rheological processes, creeping, stress relaxation, resilient recurrence, internal friction, dissipation of energy, orientation of the internal structure, permanent deformation.…”

“…8, the PLA and K vulcanizate exhibit a decrease of the storage modulus in comparison with the standard vulcanizate and it ca be expressed in the following order: PLA ˂ K. The vulcanizate with PP filler has similar values to the reference vulcanizate (ST). These differences of the storage modulus are probably related to the different degree of interaction and dispersion between the waste material (PLA, PP or K) and the polymer matrix, where the lower storage modulus of the investigated vulcanizates exhibits better interaction at the interfacial interface and the filler dispersion [10,11].…”

“…Compared with the vulcanizate standard sample (S), they slightly increased. This may be related to the more homogeneous structure of the prepared samples of vulcanizates v (PP), v (K) and v (S) [17,12]. For samples of rubber containing polylactide or bentonite filler (B), the tensile strength values were lower, compared with the vulcanizate reference sample (S) (Figure 2).…”

“…The current trend is based on the selection of various alternative fillers, such as suitable clay minerals, their modified forms, as well as clay rocks, including the fillers based on various polymers of natural or synthetic materials. Furthermore, the waste from any production process can fulfil the required and suitable properties to be used in the function of the fillers [11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19]. This work mainly deals with a partial replacement of commercial carbon black filler by selected alternative fillers, including the modification of prepared vulcanizates of selected physico-chemical parameters.…”
