Usefulness of Mitral Annular Systolic Velocity in the Detection of Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction: Comparison with Three Dimensional Echocardiographic Data

Abstract: In this study, S' velocity measured by TDI showed a significant correlation with three dimensional LVEF and can be used to detect patients with LV systolic dysfunction.

“…This effect was more apparent for weaned patients, who therefore displayed greater contractile reserves when challenged by the weaning trial. In contrast, TDSa was only modestly altered by flow reduction, suggesting its relative preload and afterload independence [24]. Lower ECMO flow before the weaning trial was also associated with successful weaning, reflecting reduced need for mechanical assistance in these patients.…”

“…Broadly speaking, S′ corresponds with LV systolic function, and has been shown to correlate with EF as measured by 3DUS83. Changes in the S′ waveform have been demonstrated as soon as 15 seconds after the onset of ischemia in experimental animal models84.…”

“…Diastolic dysfunction and systolic dysfunction lead to AF by increasing of left ventricular and atrial pressure and also increase recurrence rate after cardioversion . E/Ea ratio is related to left ventricular diastolic function, and Sa velocity is related to left ventricular systolic function . The novel indices could provide further information about the combining (systolic and diastolic) function of the left ventricle.…”

“…9,10 E/Ea ratio is related to left ventricular diastolic function, and Sa velocity is related to left ventricular systolic function. 5,6 The novel indices could provide further information about the combining (systolic and diastolic) function of the left ventricle. Recent studies showed that these new indices are related to left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP) and N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NTproBNP) levels, and the indices correlation with LVEDP and NTproBNP are better than E/Ea ratio.…”
