User Experience of Academic Staff in the Use of a Learning Management System Tool

Abstract: In Open Distance Learning (ODL) institutions the teaching model is moving towards fully integrated information and communication technology applications. To successfully teach or facilitate the use of technology, academics need to have a strong comfort level with the use of technology tools. The academic staff are qualified and experienced subject matter experts but this does not translate to having the necessary technical competencies to do online teaching. They consequently could experience feelings of incom… Show more

“…The position of the view adopted in the research study is View 1 (Figure 2.7), identifying usability as a subset of UX, as previously observed by Preece et al (2002), depicted in Figure 2.8. This position was maintained considering all usability aspects when evaluating the UX, as proven in previous research studies (de Kock et al, 2016;Preece et al, 2002). Following this discussion, due to the complexity of UX and its attributes, the UX attributes prioritised and selected for consideration in the research study were satisfaction, effectiveness, and efficiency, because these attributes can be easily measured using usability metrics for measuring the influence on users' motivation.…”

“…The grouping follows from the observation of some overlapping attributes of UX from the different literature sources, the instrumental qualities, namely, functionality and usability (Thüring & Mahlke, 2007;Albert & Tullis, 2013;ISO9241-210, 2010). Other noninstrumental qualities are satisfaction, skills, emotions, feelings of excitement, and perceptions (Albert & Tullis, 2013;de Kock, van Biljon, & Botha, 2016;Hassenzahl & Tractinsky, 2006;ISO9241-210, 2010;van Staden et al, 2017).…”

“…They can clarify the significance of those approaches as well as highlighting their strengths and weaknesses based on their thorough researches and academician experiences. Besides that, the domain experts may offer valued perceptions gained through their real setting, in which the proposed model designed with the intension that it would be practiced by team members in the software organizations [41,49,50]. The recommendations and suggestions provided by experts are utilized in the improvement of the final model [49,50].…”
