User Experience (UX) in Business, Management, and Psychology: A Bibliometric Mapping of the Current State of Research

Abstract: User Experience (UX) describes the holistic experience of a user before, during, and after interaction with a platform, product, or service. UX adds value and attraction to their sole functionality and is therefore highly relevant for firms. The increased interest in UX has produced a vast amount of scholarly research since 1983. The research field is, therefore, complex and scattered. Conducting a bibliometric analysis, we aim at structuring the field quantitatively and rather abstractly. We employed citation… Show more

“…To deal with this problem, the aim of this paper is to structure the scattered research field on opportunity recognition by conducting both a bibliometric analysis and a systematic literature review. While literature reviews are a traditional, qualitative way to organize complex research fields (Kraus, Breier, and Dasí-Rodríguez 2020;Tranfield, Denyer, and Smart 2003), bibliometric analyses represent a quantitative mapping method based on citations (Devos 2011;Zupic and Čater 2015;Mas-Tur et al 2020) which has just recently become increasingly popular in business, entrepreneurship, and management (Filser et al 2020;Gundolf and Filser, 2013;Kruggel et al 2020;Luther, Tiberius, and Brem 2020;Xi et al 2015). More specifically, our bibliometric analysis identifies the 30 most cited and therefore most influential publications within the opportunity recognition field.…”

“…Visiting an haute cuisine restaurant is a culinary experience which has little in common with dining at a normal restaurant. While some restaurants focus on the food alone, others follow a more holistic approach [ 95 ] as they address more than just the sense of taste. In addition, they might address further senses such as sight.…”

“…In total, our dataset of 380 publications included 24,465 references. In order to concentrate on the most relevant research and to arrive at a manageable number of publications, which would allow us to draw clear conclusions, it is common to set a threshold of citations (Kruggel et al 2020;Luther et al 2020). Our threshold was set to a minimum of 20 citations.…”

“…Additionally, we map the field by using bibliographic methods. Bibliometrics has recently become increasingly popular in business and management research (e.g., Batistič and Laken 2019;Castillo-Vergara et al 2018;Danvila-del-Valle et al 2019;Fetscherin and Heinrich 2015;Filser et al 2020aFilser et al , 2020bGaviria-Marin et al 2019;Kraus et al 2020b;Kruggel et al 2020;Luther et al 2020;Randhawa et al 2016;Vogel and Güttel 2012).…”
