In this study the effects of intrinsic motivation and learning competency of virtual realitybased learning is compared to traditional text-based learning. In the study 28 students were involved from the second and third years of the library and information science faculty. The application of the fully immersive virtual 3D environment of Wieng Yong House was developed to support the virtual realitybased learning in the context of museums for culture heritage. To verify the hypothesis, the control group (traditional text-based learning), consisted of 14 students, used the course module of metadata for culture heritage in the museum whereas the experimental group (control group), consisted of 14 students, was provided virtual reality-based learning in the virtual museum. The tools of measurement were the pre-test/post-test quiz for learning competency and Intrinsic Motivation Inventory (IMI) with interview. The statistical model of paired sampled t-test assumptions was chosen for the statistical investigation for the hypothesis. The results suggest that constructing a virtual reality for learning in the context of a museum for cultural heritage might be a good way to enhance intrinsic motivation but cannot sufficiently and significantly improve the student's learning competency.

The Web currently hosts a vast amount of 2D images and 3D building models.Each repository has its own data structure and a limited set of semantics according to their own needs. With the advent of Semantic Web Technologies, the opportunity arises to combine these heterogeneous data sets and publish them as Linked Data. It is within the scope of this research to investigate whether online 2D and 3D content can be enriched, published and reused as RDF. The emphasis of this work is on extracting building component information from online building geometry and publishing it as Linked Data. An interpretation framework is presented that takes as input any building mesh and computes its building components through machine learning techniques. Additionally, a Structure-from-Motion pipeline is proposed that provides similar outputs and links the 2D imagery to the reconstructed 3D building geometry. The experiments show that, even though the building content originates from different sources and was not modeled according to any standards, building geometry in online repositories and photogrammetric reconstructions can be semantically enriched with component information using terminology from Linked Building Data ontologies such as BOT, PRODUCT and OMG/FOG/GOM. This is an important step towards making structureless geometric information retrievable, linkable and thus reusable over the Web.

Metadata, particularly within the academic library setting, is often expressed in eXtensible Markup Language (XML) and managed with XML tools, technologies, and workflows. Managing a library’s metadata currently takes on a greater level of complexity as libraries are increasingly adopting the Resource Description Framework (RDF). Semantic Web initiatives are surfacing in the library context with experiments in publishing metadata as Linked Data sets and also with development efforts such as BIBFRAME and the Fedora 4 Digital Repository incorporating RDF. Use cases show that transitions into RDF are occurring in both XML standards and in libraries with metadata encoded in XML. It is vital to understand that transitioning from XML to RDF requires a shift in perspective from replicating structures in XML to defining meaningful relationships in RDF. Establishing coordination and communication among these efforts will help as more libraries move to use RDF, produce Linked Data, and approach the Semantic Web.
