Using computer software packages to enhance the teaching in Engineering Management Science: Part 3—simulation

Abstract: This paper is the third paper in a series of sharing the experience of using different software packages in the delivery of Engineering Management Science coded as ENG4004, in the Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Engineering Technology programs offered by the University of Southern Queensland. The paper describes how the authors use different software packages to solve the simulation problems of the course, using Monte Carlo technique. Sometimes more than one package is required for the effective delive… Show more

“…Aliane reported the development of a control system teaching package using the Excel spreadsheet program. Ku and Fulcher reported the achieved experience results of the usage of different software packages to solve the simulation problems of the Bachelor course, using Monte‐Carlo technique while the preferred software was Excel in MS Office. These and similar studies indicate the applicability of spreadsheets in engineering education.…”

“…Then, a pseudo quantity evaluation method is employed which supposes the allocation of scores to each system when they satisfy a particular objective of the topic. This method was proposed and applied in . The scale from 0 to 10 will be used, where 0 means that the system does not meet the particular objective and 10 means that the system best satisfy that objective.…”
