Using Health-Related Quality of Life to Identify the Incident Cardiovascular Disease Risk

Abstract: Candida Auris (C. auris), is a multidrug-resistant organism, first described in Japan 2009, and now a serious, emerging global health threat1. C. auris pathogen can potentiate morbidity and mortality, i.e. lifelong contact precaution isolation, intravenous antifungal treatment, hospitalization and mortality rate of 30-60%1. Los Angeles County (LAC) developed 15 new cases in May 2020, and 73 cases in July 2020, amidst COVID-19 pandemic2. A 88 year old Black female had a positive skin test for C. auris by LAC De… Show more

“…Higher HRQoL negatively predicted anxiety and depression symptoms and the frequency of use of emotions regulation strategies. These associations supported existing literature on coronary heart disease patients that reported the detrimental effect of negative cardiovascular health on psychological well-being, resulting in poorer emotional state and disease self-management (Faller et al, 2007;Phyo et al, 2021).…”

“…Consistently, after a cardiac event, HRQoL was found to significantly determine lower engagement in the amount, intensity, and frequency of recommended physical activity (Crane et al, 2015). Besides, negative perceived cardiovascular health was found to be associated with poorer emotional state and self-regulation abilities, suggesting it is a strong predictor of poorer disease management and consequent increased risk of incidence CVD events (Faller et al, 2007;Phyo et al, 2021). Based on the literature mentioned so far, we hypothesize a direct impact of HRQoL on intention to change physical activity, anxiety and depression symptoms, and coping (i.e., emotion regulation strategies) along with a longitudinal indirect effect on physical activity behavior.…”
