Neurological research has related vmPFC (ventromedial prefrontal cortex) activity with many functions. This research suffers from a fundamental flaw, because a method that suppresses subjective bias is being used to study the part of the brain that generates subjective bias, leading to research that is accurate but fragmented. The mental network, which is like an emotionally imposed schema, provides a unified explanation for these various functions. This thesis is supported by extensive quotes from neurological research on the vmPFC.
