Using ModelSim, Matlab/Simulink and NS for simulation of distributed systems

Abstract: In this paper a flexible concept for simulator coupling is introduced which permits the whole system simulation of distributed systems, e.g. of complex communication systems. In our approach we use different languages (Matlab-Code, VHDL, oTcl, C/C++) and combine the specialized simulators Matlab/Simulink, ModelSim and the network simulator NS-2. Matlab/Simulink and ModelSim are shipped with a powerful foreign language interface and for NS-2 we developed a solution for including user written functions. The simu… Show more

“…PiccSIM also provides a graphical user interface for the design of networked control systems and the automatic code generation of ns-2 and Matlab/Simulink models. In [9], a special simulator coupling, implemented in C/C++ is used to integrate the simulators, ModelSim, Matlab/Simulink and ns-2 to establish the communication between the simulators. Other tool integration projects also targeted for NCS include [10] [5] [8] and references therein.…”

“…PiccSIM provides a graphical user interface for the design of networked control systems and the automatic code generation of ns-2 scripts and Matlab/Simulink models. Also in [7], a special simulator coupling concept implemented in C/C++ is used to integrate the simulators ModelSim, Matlab/Simulink and ns-2. Although these two approaches address integration of simulators, the integration is not based on a standard framework, so it is not possible to reason about the accuracy or extensibility of the approaches.…”
