“…In this article, motivational interviewing (MI; Miller & Rollnick, ) is presented as a framework to address resistant behaviors caused by supervisee anxiety. Described as a person‐centered counseling approach for eliciting behavior change (Miller & Rollnick, ), MI has been used with many different problem behaviors (Lundahl & Burke, ), including parallel process in supervision (Giordano, Clarke, & Borders, ). By elucidating the process in which supervisors can attend to supervisee resistance, the present article addresses a gap in the literature and provides supervisors with a model for using specific skills and techniques discussed in the literature in an intentional manner.…”
