Using Piper trilinear diagrams and principal component analysis to determine variation in hydrochemical faces and understand the evolution of groundwater in Sidi Slimane Region, Morocco

Abstract: Groundwater is the main source of drinking water in many parts of the world. Groundwater is subject to pollution due to several trace elements and ions that occur naturally or as the result of human activities at critical concentrations. The quality of the groundwater has to be evaluated to avoid or, at least, to minimize negative impacts on human health (WHO, 2011). As Morocco's water resources are limited, Groundwater is exposed to agricultural, industrial, or urban pollution (Belghiti et al.,

“…This may have affected soil conductivity and moisture regulation. The soil's electrical conductivity increases as a result of silica absorbing cations from the soil medium, particularly Ca, mg, and K. These cations function as carriers of electrical current in the soil [60]. Silica was applied to increase the strength of the barley by thickening the cell walls, with the aim of preventing lodging [61].…”

“…water circulation system [29][30]. By studying the natural meteoric waters from many parts of the word, there is a linear relationship between stable isotopes of δD and δ 18 O defined by Craig in 1961, which is expressed as δD = 8δ 18 O + 10 and referred to as the Global Meteoric Water Line (GMWL) [31]. Usually, the point of a water sample falls near the GMWL, which means the recharge source is atmospheric precipitation.…”
