Using Simulation Training to Promote Nurses’ Effective Handling of Workplace Violence: A Quasi-Experimental Study

Abstract: Background: Workplace violence in the health care sector has become a growing global problem. Research has shown that although caregivers comprise a high-risk group exposed to workplace violence, most of them lacked the skills and countermeasures against workplace violence. Therefore, through a quasi-experimental design, this study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of situational simulation training on the nursing staffs’ concept and self-confidence in coping with workplace violence. “…Perhaps, to further support and prepare students, undergraduate programs and continuing education for nurses should also include preparation and role-play simulations on how to handle WV, detailing the potential implications to improve the resilience of students (Martinez, 2017;Ming, Huang, Hung, Chang, Hsu, Tzeng, Huang, & Hsu, 2019;Sanner-Stiehr, 2017;Wu, Chen, Hsieh, Clinciu, & Tung, 2019). “…However, very few trials were conducted and provided poor quality of evidence. Simulation training has also been used to promote nurse in handling violence workplace (Ming et al, 2019). To the authors best knowledge, this is the first attempt to conduct simulated practical VR training for T&S procedures.…”
