Using Solar-TiO2 and Biocarbon to Decompose and Adsorb Amoxicillin from Polluted Waters

Abstract: Surface water discharge of domestic sewage poses a treat mostly due to antibiotics content as amoxicillin. Its environmental presence provides the bacterial resistance enhancement and disturbance in aquatic life. The biocarbon is an organic carbon compound obtained by biomass pyrolisis at 300 o C to 750 o C under low oxygen environment. It is an effective adsorbent derived from agricultural and industrial solid biomass also frequently used to remove various pollutants, including dyes, pesticides, organic compo… Show more

“…The titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) synthesis using the hydrolysis process is very ef-Journal of Agricultural Chemistry and Environment fective, but, in many cases, results in powder agglomerates formed during the standard drying process. The use of eucalyptus biocarbon during the TiO 2 formation avoids the formation of the agglomerate and keeps the high surface area [12] [13] [14].…”

“…tion, and use in veterinarian treatment, actually with raw discharge in sewage water and water resources[13] [14].The synthesis of the TiO 2 used titanium isopropoxide in aqueous solution with the addition of acetic acid and fine eucalyptus biocarbon. The biocarbon also allows the better morphology of the TiO 2 fine particle formation and avoids the agglomeration. The TiO 2 preparation started with the titanium isopropoxide volume to a beaker filled with distilled water, acetic acid, and the correspondent biocarbon mass from 1 to 0.05 g. The amount was in the range of 1 to 5 mL for 400 mL of final suspension.…”

“…In Brazil, there are no established limits for the presence of antibiotics in the environment (soil, animal manure, groundwater, surface water, drinking water, and sediment [14] [15] [16]. Thus, because of the growing concern about surface water quality issues, the development of ecologically sound and economically viable technologies for water treatment and removal of effluent drugs is essential.…”
