Using the Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet Transform for Improved Fabric Defect Detection

Abstract: The dual-tree complex wavelet transform (DTCWT) solves the problems of shift variance and low directional selectivity in two and higher dimensions found with the commonly used discrete wavelet transform (DWT). It has been proposed for applications such as texture classification and content-based image retrieval. In this paper, the performance of the dual-tree complex wavelet transform for fabric defect detection is evaluated. As experimental samples, the fabric images from TILDA, a textile texture database fro… Show more

“…Particularly, the DTCWT satisfies the well-known condition of Hilbert Analytic, which is illustrated in top of Figure 1 (denoted in dashed box), indicating that the scaling complex function and the wavelet complex function collaborate to generate Hilbert pair. Equation 1shows its mathematical presentation as previously described [29,31,32].…”

“…The authors from [13] also used the TILDA database. In their case, they applied Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet Transform (DTCWT) for defect detection in fabrics with Euclidean Distance Classifier in the classification step.…”

“…The DWT is used quite intensively in the field of NDT for the noise suppression from the GW signals. 2729 Generally, the DWT performs two functions: scaling with low pass filter (LPF) and wavelet function with high pass filter (HPF). The test signals are decomposed into the various elementary signals with the help of available mother wavelets (wavelet function).…”
