Uterine artery pseudoaneurysm: not a rare condition occurring after non-traumatic delivery or non-traumatic abortion

“…The incidence of pseudoaneurysm in women with PPH is 3.06 % [21], but they can be present in the absence of PPH, underestimating their actual incidence [97]. Pseudoaneurysms are predominantly found after cesarean section (Fig.…”

“…Pseudoaneurysms are predominantly found after cesarean section (Fig. 8) [98] and can result in primary or secondary PPH [97]. Three-dimensional CT angiography helps demonstrate precise location and feeding vessels of pseudoaneurysm and plane TAE [36].…”

“…However, in Baba et al's study, FA was diagnosed by systematic US examination in 55% of patients without post-partum hemorrhage, and another important data is that 50% of cases occured after non traumatic delivery. 2 In our case, the non-typical clinical presentation lacking exteriorized hemorrhage delayed the diagnosis, and the absence of an arterial phase on the first CT scan prevented us from detecting the FA. This is a common pitfall and following this case we now systematically perform a new CT with an arterial phase.…”

“…This suggests that many cases are silent and therefore remain undiagnosed. 1 The most common cause of uterine artery pseudoaneurysm is cesarean delivery, but it has been reported after dilatation and curettage, surgical abortion, laparoscopic and open myomectomies, conization of uterine cervix, and normal and instrumental vaginal delivery. 2 …”
