Uterine Artery Pulsatility Index as a Pre-eclampsia Predictor in the 3 Trimesters in Women with Singleton Pregnancies

Abstract: Objective To evaluate the mean uterine artery pulsatility index (UtAPI) in each trimester of pregnancy as a predictor of early or late pre-eclampsia (PE) in Colombian pregnant women. Methods The UtAPI was measured in singleton pregnancies in each trimester. Uterine artery pulsatility index as predictor of PE was evaluated by odds ratio (OR), receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, and Kaplan-Meier diagram. Results Analysis in the 1st and 3rd trimester showed that abnormal UtAPI was … Show more

“…However, maternal serum PAPP-A MOM [29,30] was significantly lower. Some studies [31][32][33] have demonstrated that the uterine artery pulsatility index measured by Doppler ultrasound is useful and effective for predicting PE and should be implemented in clinical practice. Chronic hypertension [34,35] was associated with an increased risk of PE, which is in line with our research findings.…”

“…These trials could determine that low-serum levels of PAPP-A were associated with a higher incidence of PE and IUGR. Since this discovery, PAPP-A biomarker is part of the model of early screening for PE and IUGR at first trimester of pregnancy that is used nowadays [ 7 9 , 18 , 20 23 ].…”
