Utilisation of IGCC slag and clay steriles in soft mud bricks (by pressing) for use in building bricks manufacturing.

Abstract: The subject of this study is the application to the construction of soft mud bricks (also known as pressed bricks), both green and heat-treated bodies, built from raw materials from Santa Cruz de Mudela, Ciudad Real, and IGCC slag from the power central of Puertollano (Ciudad Real, Spain). For this purpose, industrial level tests have been performed: the production of these kind of bricks from mixes of waste from ores of construction clays and to significant fraction of different ratios and clay granulometries… Show more

“…The X-ray analysis shows a characteristic increase in the background at the 2 q angle in the range between 15°and 40° (Figure 2 and 3). The main and only mineral component in slag MI is glassy phase, which is confirmed by the studies of other authors (Acosta et al 2001(Acosta et al , 2002Aineto et al 2006;Song et al 2010a, b). Slag BA contains -besides the glassy phase -crystalline phases, namely mullite In order to study the impact of particle size of slags on their pozzolanic activity, the samples were ground and sieved through a 63 mm sieve.…”

“…It has been shown that slags resulting from gasification might be used as raw material for brick production (Acosta et al 2002) and as porous, lightweight aggregate (Aineto et al 2005). It has been also found that slag can be used as a pozzolanic material (Acosta et al 2002).…”

“…Potential usefulness in the ceramic industry was also stated (Acosta et al, 2002;Aineto et al, 2006). Searching for new directions of applications this type of material is still going on.…”
