“…The liner materials mainly used are, for example, clay (Rowe et al 1995, Wagner andSchnatmeyer 2002) or geosynthetic clay (Wagner and Schnatmeyer 2002). To conserve natural clay resources, use of various possible alternative materials has been proposed, such as compacted compost (Benson and Othman 1993), coal fly and bottom ash (Nhan et al 1996, Palmer et al 2000, Kumar and Stewart 2003, water treatment sludge (Wang and Tseng 1993), blast furnace dust (Wagner and Schnatmeyer 2002), dredged material (Mohan et al 1997), and bentonite-coated gravel (Roberts and Shimaoka 2008).
