Utilizing Ferrochrome Slag as a Coarse Aggregate in Concrete : A Review

Abstract

Researchers have been studying green building materials for a long time, including industrial wastes and byproducts. Utilizing these byproducts as building materials seems like an innovative approach with a lot of potential social, economic and environmental advantages. Ferrochrome slag (FCS) is also a by-product generated from submerged electric arc furnaces during manufacturing of ferrochrome alloy. Ferrochrome slag contains enticing properties that encourage its usage in place of natural aggregates in the construction of concrete. This paper summarizes the physical and mechanical properties of ferrochrome slag. The review also glances at the advantageous utilization and impact of ferrochrome slag as a coarse aggregate in the production of sustainable and green concrete.
