UWB/BLE Tracking System for Elderly People Monitoring

Abstract: Localization systems are the source of data that allows to evaluate elderly person’s behaviour, to draw conclusions concerning his or her health status and wellbeing, and to detect emergency situations. The article contains a description of a system intended for elderly people tracking. Two novel solutions have been implemented in the system: a hybrid localization algorithm and a method for wireless anchor nodes synchronization. The algorithm fuses results of time difference of arrival and received signal stre… Show more

“…In this paper we aim to design and implement a real-time, low-cost asset tracking system which is highly scalable and reliable as well while it is still sufficiently accurate. It is worth to note that there are mixed solution where multiple technologies are used to fulfill different sets of requirements, however these are rather two different implementations that are coupled [ 14 , 15 ].…”

“…• The transmitter needs to power a loudspeaker, which is approximately 150 times more power hungry than transmitting RF [10,11]. Hence, the Active Bat topology [4], where the mobile nodes emit ultrasonic signals, is not appropriate for energy constrained nodes.…”
