V-Shaped Monopole Antenna for Broadband Applications

Abstract: In this paper, design and analysis of a novel broadband V-shaped monopole antenna is presented. The proposed antenna has a simple configuration to fabricate with low cost. The antenna is composed of two elliptical conducting plates connected to the two edges of a small horizontal rectangular plate and placed over a small circular ground plane. The designed antenna has a very wide bandwidth range of 3-18 GHz, low cross polarization, relatively high gain and good far-field radiation characteristics in the entire… Show more

“…Many related patch antenna designs, due to their light weight, simplicity in design and low manufacturing cost [6][7][8][9][10][11], have been demonstrated recently, such as E-shape patch 32 Yang, Li, and Liu antenna [12][13][14], U-slot antenna [15][16][17], V-shape monopole antenna [18], Planar Inverted-L Antenna [19], M-slot antenna [20], H-shaped antenna [21,22]. And broadband rectangular microstrip antenna with toothbrush-shaped slots has been proposed in the past at frequency 1800 MHz [4,5].…”

“…Various designs of horn [4], biconical [5], and planar plate monopole antennas [68], have been proposed to cover the UWB bandwidth. However, these types of antennas have three-dimensional (3D) structural geometry and large in size, which makes them incompatible with portable devices.…”

“…Broadband monopole antennas have appealing features such as wide frequency band, compactness, low-cost, simple structure, light weight, and ease of manufacture [1]. Printed circuit board (PCB) in many different shapes such as circular, square, elliptical, and triangle are also constructed and proposed for UWB applications to operate over a very wide band in 2.6-14.3 GHz [2].…”
