Abstract: Carboplatin injected intravenously in a maximum permissible dose to Wistar rats inhibited erythro- and granulocytopoiesis in the bone marrow, caused hyporegenerative anemia, leukopenia, and thrombocytopenia in the peripheral blood, led to hypoplasia of the thymus and spleen, and produced moderate apoptosis-inducing effects. These effects were observed within the first month after treatment. In mice carboplatin induced chromatid aberrations in the bone marrow and increased the count of erythrocytes with micronu… Show more

“…Mild changes in the studied parameters of PB observed in nonpregnant rats 1, 3, and 6 months after etoposide treatment attest to minor delayed aftereffects of the toxic action of this drug on parameters of hemopoiesis, which agrees with published data [8]. Under conditions of additional strain of hemopoiesis (pregnancy), etoposide treatment induced the development of regeneration anemia.…”

“…It can persist for a long time without considerable changes in the parameters of peripheral blood (PB) cells [5,8]. In case of pregnancy producing additional strain in the hemopoietic system, the hematotoxic effects of antitumor preparations can be more pronounced.…”

“…Rapid age-associated involution of the thymus, reduced lymphocyte counts in the peripheral blood and bone marrow were previously detected in female rats treated with PT 3 months before mating [7]. We therefore have to admit that the detected shifts in the immune reaction of the progeny can result from pathological changes in the maternal hemopoietic and immune systems.…”

“…Paclitaxel is characterized by pronounced hematological toxicity. Experimental studies showed that signs of hemopoiesis suppression manifested during delayed periods after PT therapy and were paralleled by rapid age-dependent involution of the thymus [7].…”

“…Previous studies showed that administration of these drugs in high doses induced inhibition of bone marrow hemopoiesis (especially erythropoiesis) in animals [5]. Here we studied the mechanisms of destruction and recovery of the hemopoietic tissue during experimental myelosuppression induced by carboplatin.…”
