“…This interaction had been previously described, as well as that between E3L and the substrate binding domain of the host IFN-induced doublestranded RNA-activated protein kinase (53,54). An interaction between the K1L protein, required for replication in rabbit kidney and human cell lines (55), with the uncharacterized C10L protein was recently found by using another version of the yeast two-hybrid system (A. Grunhaus and B.M., unpublished data) and was confirmed in the present screening. The biological relationship between the K1L and C1OL proteins remains to be determined.…”

“…The expression plasmid pMK4 was used in vivo to generate a recombinant virus (vP 1258) by using a New York Vaccinia (NYVAC) rescuing virus (14). The COPAK donor plasmid contains multiple cloning sites, with the gene of interest being placed under the control of an early-late H6 promoter (15). The plasmid also carries the K1L ORF flanked on either side with ORFs of the A24R and A27L (16).…”

“…This suggested that another gene functionally equivalent to K1L for multiplication in human cells was present in the VV genome. Indeed, Perkus et aL (1990) discovered that the C7L ORF on the HindlII restriction map of VV displays the properties predicted for a functional homologue of the K1L ORF. In an independent search for a VV host range gene with similar properties to K1L we have confirmed the host range function of the C7L ORF.…”
