Vacuum energy of M/sup 4/ x S/sup M/ x S/sup N/ in even dimensions

Abstract: We obtain an expression for the one loop effective potential coming from quantum fluctuations of scalars and spin-l/2 fermions in a higher-dimensional manifold of product form M' x SM x SN. In contrast to previous calculations, we consider the case in which the total number of dimensions is even, since this is the relevant case for superstring compactification. A detailed calculation for a ten-dimensional spacetime with two internal 3-spheres is performed, and an approximate static solution for the geometry is… Show more

“…[70] for a two-parameter internal manifold, namely for V"' equal to a product of two spheres of different radii. A solution was found which, for a sufficiently large number (=~i0~) of matter fields, is consistent with the one-loop approximation, i.e., the size of the internal dimensions is larger than the Planck length.…”

“…[31], we shall use the Keldysh formalism [43] for the computation of the CP- 1 An alternative dynamics for preserving the generated baryon asymmetry has been explored in Ref. [8]. 2 Although bottom and tau Yukawa couplings become large for large values of tan β, the bottom and tau superfield couplings to the Higgs boson combination which acquires vacuum expectation value, Φ = H 0 1 cos β + H 0 2 sin β, remains small, apart from an enhancement of the Φ-trilinear coupling to left and right sbottoms and staus, which increases the corresponding mixings, but does not lead to an enhancement of the phase transition strength.…”
