Vagococcus allomyrinae sp. nov. and Enterococcus larvae sp. nov., isolated from larvae of Allomyrina dichotoma

Abstract: The taxonomic positions of two novel strains isolated from larvae of an insect (Allomyrina dichotoma) collected in Jeju, Republic of Korea, were determined by a polyphasic approach. Strain BWB3-3T was closely related to the type strain of Vagococcus salmoninarum , having 97.2 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity, whereas strain BWM-S5T formed an independent cluster within the genus … Show more

“…Seven of these animal-associated Vagococcus were cultured from animals living in water. Four Vagococcus type species have been isolated from insects: Vagococcus allomyrinae , Vagococcus entomophilus , Vagococcus coleopterorum and Vagococcus hydrophili from, respectively, the Japanese rhinoceros beetle Allomyrina dichotoma [7], wasp Vespula vulgaris [8] and the diving beetles Cybister lewisianus and Hydrophilus acuminatus , respectively [9].…”

“…They have also been detected in livestock-associated environments [10][11][12] and foods containing animal products [3,[13][14][15]. The other sources of isolation have included grain [16], bioreactors [17] and insects [18,19]. Several Vagococcus species have been reported harmful to their host.…”
