Validación de la versión corta del Woman Abuse Screening Tool para su uso en atención primaria en España

Abstract: These results coincide with the sensitivity and specificity values obtained in the validation of the instrument in Spanish-speaking women in the USA, which also recommend the use of the first criterion. The Spanish short version of the WAST is a suitable instrument to be used by health professionals for the early detection of gender violence in the healthcare context of Spain. However, because of its low specificity, this instrument should be used with caution.

“…In our study, 17% of positive screenings were collected, higher than the percentages obtained in the population of women treated in PC, consistent with the consideration of psychopathological symptoms as risk indicators of gender violence in the primary care area (Plazaola-Castaño, Ruiz-Pérez, & Hernández-Torres, 2008). If after screening, gender violence was confirmed, clinical practice guideline recommendations on how to treat women abused by their partner (Garriga, Martín, Balanza, Bonilla, Cámara, Cánovas, et al, 2010) would be proposed.…”

“…These figures are in contrast with the much lower prevalence of IPV in Spanish population, which, according to the published literature, ranges from 1 to 4 % for self-reported violence, and between 14 and 15 %, for technically defined acts of violence based on the Index of Spouse Abuse [13,14,24]. One further study based on the ''2011 MacroSurvey on Gender-based Violence'' found a 6 % prevalence of last year IPV among immigrant women in Spain [9].…”

“…Así la puntuación final osciló entre 0 y 2 considerándose la puntuación 2 como resultado positivo en el cribado. Este tipo de valoración fue la más apta para la versión española ya que presentó una sensibilidad del 93% y una especificidad del 68% (22,23) .…”
