Show more

“…This technique has undergone various modifications, as have others widely used by practicing anthropologists, regarding the statistics and the seriation of changes observed (Berg ; Hartnett , ; Kimmerle et al ). Only a few studies, however, have established the focus on testing those results in populations from South America (also see Desantolo for histomorphometry of the femur). Rodríguez () and Sanabria () tested the applicability of the Suchey–Brooks and Iscan–Loth techniques to autopsy room samples of known age and sex at the Forensic Institute in Bogota, Colombia, finding substantial differences between the expected estimations and real age (Rodríguez ).…”

“…Adult age determination techniques developed in the last years were derived primarily from North American and European populations (see, e.g., Calce ; Di Gangi et al ; Kunos et al ; Rissech et al ). Anatomical collections in Latin America: Colombia (Sanabria and Di Gangi ), Argentina (Desantolo ), and Chile (Paredes et al ) may shed some light on the inaccuracies and biases of the age estimation techniques being used (there have been some tests on not always useful techniques, see, e.g., Navarro and Roldán ).…”
