Validation and Cultural Adaptation of an Arabic Version of Pediatric Eating Assessment Tool (Pedi-EAT-10Arabic)

Abstract: Pediatric eating assessment tool (Pedi-EAT-10Arabic) is a validated and reliable caregiver administered outcome instrument designed for detection of children at high risk of penetration/aspiration. The objective of this study is to translate and validate the Arabic version of Pedi-EAT-10 and to correlate its results with pharyngeal residue and aspiration on fiber optic endoscopic examination of swallowing (FEES). “…With respect to psychometric measures, the I-PEDI-EAT-10 showed an adequate level of internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.89), in line with that reported in the original study ) (α = 0.87) and in the Arabic version (Adel et al, 2022) (α = 0.98). Specifically, in the Adel et al, Cronbach's α ranged from 0.961 to 0.967.…”

“…Additionally, test–retest reliability analysis demonstrated a strong temporal stability (Pearson r = 0.99; Spearman r = 0.96), computed after double measurement at two different times. Results were similar among the original scale (intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) = 0.93–0.98) and its translated version (ICC = 0.97–1) (Adel et al., 2022; Murray Hurtado et al., 2023; Serel Arslan et al., 2018).…”
